“The Marvels of the Royal Łazienki”. An AR Mirror Within a Multisensory Exhibition

At Lens That, we collaborated with the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw. to create an immersive, multisensory exhibition that brings artworks to life and turns visitors into art themselves.

Augmented Reality in Museums and Cultural Institutions

This collaboration was one of those rare moments when Augmented Reality becomes more than a marketing tool. The innovative technology, used mostly as entertainment for social media users, brought pieces to life and became a huge part of the exhibition, adding a completely new, immersive way to experience art.

Together with the Royal Łazienki Museum, we introduced an additional sense to the traditional spectrum of smell, touch, sight, taste, and hearing: transformation.

The Keyword: Marvels.

The exhibition explores the many ways visitors experience the museum – from the simplest sensations, such as scent, to complex art installations and centuries-old masterpieces. Whether they prefer contemporary interpretations or historical heritage, every visitor can find their own marvels around the exhibition.

The Marvels of the Royal Łazienki invites audiences on a journey of discovery, connecting individual artworks into a shared narrative and turning even the smallest moments into meaningful artistic experiences.

Ten Thematic Zones Focused on Sensory Engagement

Housed in the Officer Cadets School within Łazienki Park in Warsaw, the exhibition is divided into ten thematic spaces: scent, visual arts, literature, theatre, music, relations, dream, eating, nature, and movement. Each zone offers a unique opportunity not only to observe art, but to actively engage with it.

Created in collaboration with curators, researchers, educators, volunteers, and even the public, the exhibition uses multisensory experiences to reflect what has delighted generations of visitors to the museum. Guests are invited to touch, smell, listen to, and interact with works primarily from the Museum’s collection, alongside specially created objects and installations by contemporary artists.

The AR Mirror as an Interactive Art Installation

We’re proud to have contributed to The Marvels of the Royal Łazienki by introducing an AR Mirror into the exhibition. Inspired by Metamorphoses by the Roman poet Ovid, the experience reimagines the essence of his work in a contemporary context – exploring how the world transforms over time, and how we transform with it.

Interpreting Mythological Transformation Through Technology

In this section of the exhibition, visitors encounter reproductions of six engravings from the collection of King Stanisław August. These prints, taken from a French edition of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, portray mythological heroes and their symbolic transformations.

Bridging Classical Art and the Digital Future

After engaging with the original artworks, visitors are invited to step into the story themselves. Standing in front of the AR Mirror, they watch their own reflection transform into mythological characters – an owl or a bear – combining the aesthetic of historical art pieces with futuristic shapes and animations. The result bridges classical art with an innovative medium, encouraging reflection on humanity’s next transformation, focusing on the digital age: How will technology change us? Who will we become?

Social Media and Digital Sharing

The experience continues beyond the exhibition space. By scanning a QR code, visitors can activate the AR transformation on their smartphones, view it through their camera, capture images, and share them on social media. This not only amplifies the reach of the exhibition, but also invites new audiences to discover and experience The Marvels of the Royal Łazienki for themselves.
